hehe...sorry had to put this. don't remember who posted it.
Matthew 22:14
"For many are invited, but few are chosen."
Reminds me of a party. Kinda like "Your peers are coming. But you're not. you're a loser."

There are actually only a few religions that think there is a set number, and I do not subscribe to that line of thinking.
Personally, I know I'm in that number because God promised to save those who accepted Christ into their hearts, and that would include me

Billions, maybe trillions. The Bible says that no one could count them.
Revelation 7:9
"After this I looked and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and in front of the Lamb. They were wearing white robes and were holding palm branches in their hands."
I think I'm on the 'list' because of:
Romans 10:9,10
"That if you confess with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved."

In Gnosticism ALL are eventually saved, including the rulers of darkness.
Even in Christianity there is a non-canonical apocalyptic text, I believe attributed to Peter, which states that if just one person looks down from heaven into hell and asks God to save them, it will be done.

If you go by what is in the bible the people that will be Christians were choosen before the foundation of the world. In short they had no choice in the matter. As for those that do not well guess what. They didn't have a choice either!

Who ever is "born of the Holy Spirit" will be saved." If you are truly repentant of your sins and fully intend on committing your life (losing it) to live for God by accepting Jesus Christ into your life as Lord and Savior, God will send His Holy Spirit down to dwell within you, You are now "born of the Holy Spirit" you have become a saint of God. You MUST have the Spirit of God in you. There IS NO OTHER WAY for salvation! And that's only IF you do not fall away into complete lawlessness (disregard His 10 Commandments) You MUST keep them. "Faith without works is dead". This means you must totally commit yourself to God. God must be first in everything you do!! You have to prove yourself out to be a TRUE and FAITHFUL servant until the end. That's when you receive your salvation. At the end of the road, not the beginning! The return of Jesus Christ is when you receive your new body. You are not "born again" until you are changed (reborn,"born again") into your new "glorified spirit being body" and receive the crown that comes with it. Until then you are only "born of the Spirit" that God sends to you to help guide you, council you, and convict you when necessary. If you endure in your faith to the end......Then you will become a joint heir of Jesus Christ and reign with Him in the Kingdom of God on earth for the Millennium (1000yr) rule.

I think you answerd your own question. The fact that "each religion has its own number," pretty much sums up the whole credibility of religion when it comes to knowing ANYTHING!

I don't know about anyone else, but I'll be saved because I have a very large collection of Mad magazines. God is a major Alfred E Nueman addict.
