I am filling out the FAFSA and I am stuck about the section where they ask for my tax info. I am currently 18 and just started a job 3 months ago, working part-time... I've earned a total of only about
$1200. Do I still have to file my taxes in order to fill out the FAFSA. I do however have my W-2, so is that enough...
Could someone please help me... I'm so confused!!!

Most likely based on your age you will need both your income info AND your parents, not instead as people are saying. Anyway, if you are doing the 0708 FAFSA you will only need to report the income from 2006, you can use your W-2 to answer and indicate that you will file later, or if you choose will not file as you will not have earned enough to be required to file. You may want to however, to get back any taxes that were withheld from your checks.

I'm not an expert on taxes whatsoever, but are you're parents or guardians assisting you with completing the paperwork? It's been so long since college, and my family did the paperwork for me.

I believe they have to cosign for you. Is there anywhere that they have to put in their own tax information? If not, you may need to put their info there instead of yours.

Secondly, I believe there is an 800 number, ah yes, it's 1-800-4-FED-AID and they should be able to help you more!

Good luck!!

Use the info from your w-2 to fill out the FASFA and go ahead and get it sent in. File your taxes too, though. A 1040EZ form is very easy to fill out.

if you made only $1200 for the year of 2006, you don't have to file tax forms. Check with www.irs.gov for the limit you need to file the federal tax. You will indicate "will not file"

Are your parents claiming you as a dependent for tax purposes? If yes, then you can use their info instead. I was a dependent of my mother for most of the years when I was in college, so that worked for me. Try asking your school's financial aid office to be sure.

if your parents are still claiming you, you would use their tax info instead of yours.
