Dear Megan:
My youngest son recently completed his basic training in the Army Reserves and this is the first I heard of writing in green. If in there letter it did not say that any correspondence not in green will not make it to its recipient then don't worry. My advise is to do what they are asking for future correspondence. And if you are not satisfied with my response then contact his place of recruitment and present your question the them.
P.S. Please let him know we are all behind him and he is in our prayers.
Best Wishes,

Don't worry he will get all his mail he probley asked you to do something like that because the drill sargenats made some crazy rule about doing push ups unless the letters in green who knows. But don't worry he'll get his mail and before long he'll be able to call you on the weekends. It may seem like he's been gone for a long time but just remember how fast time goes by looking back... seems like christmas was two weeks ago.

WHOA, slow down. Not writing in Green is fine. When I was at field training, however, some people liked to read their letters at night after lights out. Some colors are easier to do that with than others. Time is scarce in training and finding ways to fit more into the day is sometimes a priority. At my field training each of our rooms had private bathrooms, so we were able to pretend to be going to the bathroom while we read/wrote letters.
Don't worry, they'll still give it to him regardless of what color you wrote the letter in.

I have never heard anything about writing in green. When my husband was in basic I wrote to him with normal pens....my sister's BF is in basic right now and she's never mentioned anything like that.
I wouldn't worry about the letters you already sent. They can't withhold his mail from him (maybe temporarily, but they can't just not give it to him). As long as you are not mailing any contraband - when my hubby was in basic that was anything from pictures to newspapers to food, but I know it's changed a lot since then - they will give him your letters.
If he wants it written in green, I guess write in green from now on. Although I still think that's really odd.....

This must be something very new, as i've not been told to do that in writing to my family members in iraq. So i'll send them an email see what's up about this.
He will get the letter. Must be some new type of equipment being used to scan letters. Another sick Homeland security thing more than likely.
