Mercury exists in nature in two forms, inorganic and organic. The organic mercury methylmercury is the concern. Mercury in its organic form is called Methylmercury and it binds to tissue and is the form found in fish !. Some fish have more methylmercury than others, depending on their environment. Fish absorb mercury in their gills from where they live and from their food sources as they feed on other organisms. A general rule of thumb is that the larger the fish, the higher the level of methylmercury in its flesh. A very large bluefin tuna or swordfish will tend to have higher levels as this compound accumulates.

Certain types of seafood particularly fatty fish and shellfish contain high levels of mercury because of irresponsible dumping practices dumping garbage in the oceans.Things like fluorescent light bulbs contain very high amounts of mercury and this particular metal tends to remain in the muscle tissues of certain sea life.As to the particular amounts that you may find in a serving of tuna I don't know where to find such information but I'm assuming such things in moderation are not extremely harmful.
