Maybe either ice chips or honey in warm water could help soothe your throat internally?

Either ride out the pain and swelling or go to the emergency room if you have trouble breathing. When I had my tonsils out my throat was so swollen that I couldn't breath or swallow. They gave me high doses of steroids and morphine for about four days and that did me right.

Talk to your doctors, they should be able to tell you what kind of anti-inflammitries you should use and can also perscribe some pain meds.
