Potatoes will take you from 1 to 1&1/2 hours to do in the oven. Microwaves speed it up, but they destroy a lot of the nutrients and you just don't get the same crispy skin in the microwave and everyone knows that the skins are the best part!
You are also going to need some oil (Olive or Canola oil are preferred), and some salt. Many people prefer Kosher, I use sea salt. Any will do.
Wash thoughouly
Using your average fork work your way around each potato stabbing deeply into it's flesh. 6-12 stabs should do it depending on the size of the potatoes you are using. This allows steam to escape during the cooking process.
Dry them off with a paper towel and preheat the oven to 350°F
LIGHTLY coat each potato with oil. My method is to lightly dab each potato in the oil and then use my hands to spread the dab around the entire spud. Then lightly salt each one and put aside as you wait for the oven to heat up.
Arrange them in a 350°F oven over a baking sheet to catch any drippings.
Cooking time will vary from 1 hour and up depending on the size and quantity of potatoes you cook. The skin should be puffed up, golden-brown and crispy, and the potato should squish easily and be very soft on the inside. Careful, potatoes retain heat for quite a while!
You can also bake them without the oil and salt. Just follow the rest of the instructions. Put them on a piece of aluminum foil, and bake.

In a microwave oven. A single potato will take about 5 mins on high after which you wrap it in aluminum foil and let it stand for 5 mins or so. You must remember to cut a tiny piece from the end and stick a fork in the potato before putting it into the microwave oven.

In its jacket - microwave - average sized potatoe takes 3 - 4 mins
Roast potatoes are great like this - Parboil potatoes cut in half - Parboil means partly boil, they should not be soft or hard, in between. Drain in colander, spray baking tray with olive oil, put potatoes on and spray with olive oil, score with a fork across the top and sprinkle salt on, bake for 20 mins, spray with more olive oil and bake for further 15 mins, nice and crispy.

Nuke it. Pierce the skin in several places so that it does not burst inside the oven - that'd be a mess to clean up - and wrap it in a couple layers of damp paper towels. You'll have to experiment a bit to determine just how long to leave it in there. Most microwave ovens come with an instruction manual that should give you a general idea of the time needed.

I found that if you start the potato in the microwave it will bake faster. You wont have to wait for an hour for it to bake in the oven. Start the potato in m/w for 5 min until almost done then put in oven will take less thenthan 2o mins.

the microwave of course , poke holes in it with a fork wrap with saran wrap , cook on high, not sure how long some microwaves have a preset for potatoes, or microwave a little and then put in conventional oven wrapped in tinfoil. or throw on gas grill wrapped in tinfoil . or just throw in conventional oven wrapped in tinfoil and bake at 350 for about 45 min to an hour
