This may sound a bit daft but I live in the UK and would like to go and live and work in the US for a while even though I do not know anyone there. I kinda wanna go nowish and was just wondering if I could apply for a work visa from there or would that just make everything complicated. Also, financially, how much cash do you think I would need to support myself with everything (I dont want to end up living on the street) Also, can you rent a room or something like you can here in the uk in America or not?

You do need a work visa to work in the US. Very few places will hire you without one, and any one that does is breaking the law.

The living wage is around $12-$15 an hour (that's about 6 to 7.50 pounds). It is extremely rare to find a job that will pay that much unless you have a college degree. However, it is not impossible. Check the newspaper in your US city for hiring ads.

You can rent a room here in the US. Again, check the newspaper for rooms/apartments/homes for rent OR walk around the town and ask in apartment building lobbies about openings. However, you will usually have to let people know well ahead of time that you want an apartment, so be sure to know where you want to live and make some calls before you move here.

Good luck!

some people do get work permtis and then change them to perm apps. it all depends. go to www.doleta.gov about jobs etc but starts at at www.travel.state.gov for visas first, then explore the site and www.usa.gov for vistitors etc to learn more.

if you can get someone to give you ajob you can get a work permit. you can find roomates or as canada calls them shared accomodations avg is 300 and up. rent varies drastically from place to place city to city. food is cheap her as is public transport but not as good as in the uk.

to explore for a month i would say bring 2000 to 3000 to be safe.

a visa debit card is good too. go to

www.usa.gov and all the info is there look at the tabs that says for visitors etc. or something like that.

good luck on your visit!
