I don't know how much you make a year, but if it's below something like $30,000 (this is a guess, I don't remember exactly), you can go to irs.gov and follow the links to "Free File" and your federal fees and in many states, your state fees will be waived. You'll use the freedom edition at turbo tax (which the website will try to redirect you from, as they'd like you to be a PAYING customer!) As for your question, I didn't learn about the free file until after I filed my taxes this year and I used Turbo Tax Basic Edition for $14.95 and with my state and federal fees it turned out to be $40.90. I filed my brother's taxes using the free file and paid NOTHING!
