Okay as an American, please don't lump us all together. You have to realize many here have the mentality that we saved everyone in WW2. It is true that by joining in WW2 we had a major impact on the Allies winning. But it was the Allies who won, a team effort, and many of us here in the USA know that.

I don't hate entire groups of people. I try to avoid being that bigoted. There are people that I don't feel so good about, but these ar people that I either know, or have some research on to know who they are and what the stand for. To do otherwise is ridiculous. Why hate something you don't know or understand? However you are right. This is the sad reality that we face on a daily basis. Partisanship is at an all time high. Racism (by all races) exists. The rich have a tendency to look down upon the poor is either "stupid" or "lazy," and the poor in turn become bitter toward the rich. I wish that our country would put these differences aside and unite. We are better than what we have become. EDIT: Curt J, Completely with you on this one. Even though I'm a young guy myself (still in college), there are definately people out there, on Yahoo! Answers and otherwise, who disagree, but have honest, healthy debate with eachother, find some middle ground and handle things in a peaceful matter. I salute you and others out there who answer questions in a respectful way without resorting to hatred and anger. We need more people like that out in the country today.

Here is what Field Marshal Montgomery had to say about this..............
"At the end of Montgomery's war diary, a special note, written by the famous general, stated "And so the campaign in Northwest Europe is finished. I am glad; it has been a tough business ... the Supreme Commander had no firm ideas as to how to conduct the war and was 'blown about by the wind' all over the place ... the staff at SHAEF were completely out of their depth all the time. The point to understand is if we had run the show properly the war could have been finished by Christmas, 1944. The blame for this must rest with the Americans. To balance this it is merely necessary to say one thing, i.e. if the Americans had not come along and lent a hand , we would never have won the war at all."

Lemme see, i think its well known that the Red Army won WWII. 80% of the Germans soldiers who died during the war were on the Eastern Front. So why was Churchill so adamant for America to come into the war with its industrial might....why was Stalin anxious for the Allies start a second front?
The answer is that the allies achieved victory, with the Russian contributing the most. Post-war recriminations are purely non-sequitor.

You forget that America contributed more than just fighting. Britain's government said itself that England would lose the war but for American assistance.
Don't forget, America produced more planes between when it entered the war and when the war ended than all the other nations combined produced during the entire war
Also don't forget 50 BILLION dollars (that doesn't count for inflation) in military equipment and ammo that America gave to Europe to defeat Hitler (most of which went to England)
Also, don't forget the sale of military equipment to england for 10% of market cost... so much equipment at such a generous loan that even at 10% cost England took until 2006 to pay off the purchases.
In short, regardless of troop strength, without American industrial might, you'd be speaking german right now. No body likes a sore loser, but even worse is an ingrate ally.

When will the British give up trying to claim they needed no help? Let's review: In 1940, Winston Churchill and Franlin D. Roosevelt made a deal in which the US would provide 50 destroyers for the use of 8 British bases. In 1941, the U.S. "lends" military equipment to Britain for the war effort. Churchill and FDR. The deal is basically that Britain will pay one tenth the cost of the production of the equipment (payment was not completed until December, 2006). Churchill himself remarked in a speech in November 1941: "the end of our financial resources was in sight; nay, had actually been reached....Then came the majestic policy of the President and Congress of the United States in passing the Lease-Lend Bill, under which, in two successive enactments, about £3,000,000,000 was dedicated to the cause of world freedom, without-mark this, because it is unique-without the setting up of any account in money. Never again let us hear the taunt that money is the ruling power in the hearts and thoughts of the American democracy. The Lease-Lend Bill must be regarded without question as the most unsordid act in the whole of recorded history."
I think that pretty much confirms we saved you, along with thousands of troops, and the armored, air, and naval support that was sent to augment the British and allied forces.

The second world war was a long time ago our enemies at the time are now our friends we should all concentrate now on making sure there is never a world war three. If the unthinkable does happen we all know British soldiers will be standing shoulder to shoulder with American troops.

Yes, Germany was planning to attack America after it dominated Britain. Americans came and was able to halt the German advance onto the British by launching attacks onto German occupied French territory with the help of the British and the Canadians, and the Australians as well. Russia did a ton of fighting as well but it was the Americans that is led to be the defining edge that won the war in Europe. Alone we would not have won, sure. But without our help the world would be a much different place.

Its a bit of a downer, eh ?
Acording to that guy last week, the UK spent all of WW2 sucking our thumbs.
I woudl tell my Uncle Albert that, only he died in the war...maybe he choked on his thumb or something.
I do think the Amercian attitude is getting more arrogant. I don't know why. Perhaps its because thier view is so insular compared to other countries

how did the americans save us during wold war 2, they only entered the war after the battle of Britain, after the battle of Britain the threat of invasion was over (Hitler moved his forces against the russian), since the equipment used, and the personal that used the equipment, during the battle of Britain had no connection with america, i fail to see how they saved us, they certainly were a great help in wunning the war (although they only encounted less than 20% of Nazi military strength), but they didn't save us.

Oh let them think that but most people know real history and know that USA made themselves the most powerful and richest country in the world and sold out the rest of the world in the process. The most ironical thing is the country that really did attack them Japan benefited more than any other country. The thing is who were the first countries to back Bush in the war Iraq ( Britain and Australia) and always will be there to watch the Yanks back that's what Allies do for each other so who should be grateful to who.
