Not sure what the problem is .... I use Nero to burn AVI files to DVD all the time.

Are you using Nero Smart Start ?
Choose DVD
Create my own DVD
Add files
etc .... ?

Are you sure it is an AVI file ?
Nero supports a lot more than ISO ... I burn ISO files onto CD or DVD ith Nero frequently.
.........please clarify by telling us what is the :

full file name (with extension)
&
length of the movie
type of media you are using

Nero supports more than ISO. Try downloading a programme called dvdsanta. This will encode your file before burning it in dvd format.

You may be able to find this prog in Limewire, but be careful as there are many dodgy .exe files on Limewire. I suggest you download it from bittorrent.

Following on from your Additional Information. Have you tried just burning the file onto a CD instead of DVD. The quality wont be as good but your file is only 701mb and will fit onto a CD-R as long as you allow overburn. This can then be played on "most" dvd players, as long as it allows VCD
It seems to me that you may not have the DVD burning facility on your version of Nero, and as you say, it may be an older version.
I find that Nero 7 is the best even though there are more recent versions available.
Overburn can be found in the options section IIRC.

Hope this helps mate.

You can use Nero to burn .avi files so they would be played on any DVD player.

1) Start Nero StartSmart
2) Click on MAKE YOUR OWN DVD-VIDEO in Photo and Video section.
Nero Vision will start up.
3) Click on ADD FILES
4) Look for the movie file that you want to burn. When you'll find it click on it once and click OPEN.
5) It will add the movie file.
NOTE: Even though the movie file may be small (700MB) it will take up entire DVD for it, because Nero will convert .avi (movie file) to standard dvd files and this will take up space.
6) Click NEXT
7)Choose and edit the templates if you want, if not then just click next.
8) Preview screen will appear. You can watch the movie if you want, if not click NEXT.
9) Some pop-up window may appear saying that you have more PAL than NTFS material in the project and asking if you want to change settings to PAL, CLICK NO. PAL setting is made for European TV and DVD sets and will be playing the video in black and white on American TVs and DVDs.
10) Finally click Burn, sit back, and relax. Depending on your computer speed and the speed of your dvd burner, the conversion and burning process may take up to an hour.

JUST IN CASE: Also when you start Nero StartSmart, on the bottom right corner you may see two people looking objects in green and blue, if you click on them they will turn into 2 businessmen. This will give you more options in every section (ex. data, audio, video, etc.)
