In response to Phoenix's question about why creationism, one of the answers was the 'God doesn't lie'.

So if he doesn't lie, why would he create a universe that looks to be 14 billion years old or an earth that appears to be 4.5 billion years old?

As we all know, science has gotten more accurate throughout human history, so the likelihood of either of these estimates ever changing by even a factor of ten is extremely slim.

So if God doesn't lie, why does the universe look so old?

But does it? How do you know what a unviverse looks like that is 10 billion years old or 12,000 years old. No one was here. The origin of the universe cannot be dated. Carbon dating has to be based upon something in it's origin. It's accurate to what others set the base date to be.

Why can't it be old and the Word be true? We have recorded history that is only a fraction of the earth's age. That is true. Many spiritual people believe that the rest of the earth's existence is chronicled in between Genesis 1:1 and 1:2. We don't really know the timeline God was speaking about when he explained the creation of the earth, and our translation of time increments could be, in faact, incorrect. This is corroborated by other parts of the Bible, which mention a first flood and a second flood, suggesting that even before Adam and Eve, there was a previous world population.
Something to ponder.

The universe and earth are old (by human standards), but young by eternity standards. Contrary to the claims of some, young earth creationism is not taught in the Bible. In fact, many of their doctrines are flatly contradicted by the Bible. The Bible actually teaches that the Genesis "days" were longer than 24 hours. More info...

Even if there is a god and he doesn't lie, that makes a HUGE assumption that the people writing the bible down wouldn't lie or change details...

In the bible's early days there were no printing presses and no consistent version. Each scribe who wrote copies of the bible would make his own little changes... Overtime the more popular changes and even many of the made-up bits were adopted as being official.

You have invented the world as you see it.

Is it really old? How can it be? The past is just a figment in the imagination that you imagine NOW, and can only ever imagine NOW.

The world has no age. It is eternally new.

Maybe it's time for you to renew your perception. Or, maybe you should just get back to the T.V.
