a. ride will be rougher
b, handling will be a little better
c, gas mileage should be the same.
but along as the overall height of the 17" rim and tire is the same as the 16" rim and tire you wont have a difference in your speedometer readings.
A taller tire will take longer to make a complete revolution.

Pep Boys, Auto Zones or Just Tires, NTB's sell all sorts of off brands. Most in the $125.00 and up range. Its what you want verses what you can afford when it comes to tires.

You should not realize much of a hit in ride quality but with a wider tire you will realize a 1 to 2 mile hit in your gas mileage; however, you will love the performance over you stock tires and wheels. The 17-inch wheel will look nicer than the 16. I don't like going much past 18 inch if this happens to cross your mind to with a even larger rim.

Good luck with you change out.

if you're wanting to yet 17 inch rims on your '00 GT they could prefer to be 17x7.5 wheels with a 5-114 bolt trend. the right tires length may be 245/40 5-17. So the 225/fifty 5-17's you're suggesting are both too slender and too tall. Yup, they'll fit, yet not proper.

i just did the same to my car. gas mileage wont improve much if you have low-profile tires on the 17", because the circumference will be about the same. as for ride and handling. if they're wider, they'll want to follow more ruts in the road than smaller tires, but that only is affected on the freeway, and not by much.

i got my brand-new tires and rims at discounttiredirect.com, and it was quality products and inexpensive.
