I would like to put some movies on my sandisk sansa but I don't know if its possible to download dvds onto my computer

You can if you find some DVD ripping software, although most DVD's are protected so it is illegal to do so.

Yes, you can download a dvd. Usually comes as a ISO file that nero,roxio etc. will burn.
