She may just be getting old and tired and wants to rest. I would take any old dog to the vet if they were not acting normal. I also heard on "The Pet Show, with Dr. Warren Eckstein (sp?)" that older dogs and cats can sometimes suffer from dementia. So that could be part of it too. I know i would be breaking out some steak pieces or bacon to get my dog's tail wagging. But that's just me.

Other than taking her temperature rectally (should be 101 to 102)
to see if she is running a fever, I don't know of anything you could do. With no other symptoms, I'm sure the vet will run blood work to see if her organs are all working correctly. It is important that she not get dehydrated, so you might try forcing some water with a syringe , turkey baster or something else you might figure out. I believe 12 years is about the average age for golden retrievers, but I've known many that lived much longer than that. Take her to the vets as soon as you can. Good luck.

Its hard to ever be sure with older dogs. Watch her carefully but don't let her not eat. Siringe water into her mouth and keep her hydrated. It's important to keep her functioning almost normal. Watch her when she goes to the bathroom make sure there is no blood or any problems. If she hasn't eaten anything by tomorrow I would suggest getting some wet puppy food. It should be puppy because it will have more nutrients and help replenish anything she has lost. With older dogs it can be a range of things. If there isn't anything really out of the norm other than a lack of food interest and water it may not be anything major but if she truly won't eat a thing take her to the vet. Monday should be plenty of time to see if any changes occur. To help her just watch her, pet her, don't make her get up too much or not at all, give her only kind words, and love her as much as you can. I understand it's hard to think about loosing a pet and hard when it approaches the time they pass. I hope she's all right and everything goes ok. A dog that doesn't want to eat or drink could be problematic.
The Vet needs to evaluate; is this just some simple virus or is there a larger problem with the digestive system.
Sometimes dogs behavior will change as they age; still it is premature to start talking about euthanasia w/o getting an opinion from a Vet.
Good luck

If shes not eating or drinking you shouldnt wait till Monday, she could become dehydrated and this could affect her kidneys as she is an old dog. Try to encourage her to eat by feeding boiled hamburger or chicken and white rice, or use a little sodium free beef broth on her regular food. Other things to watch for : the color of her gums (should be nice and pink) if they are white/pale/grey/blue you need to get to a vet asap, watch the size of her abdomen,if it starts to look larger/swollen, or feels fluid filled, take her right away. Heavy or labored breathing is also an emergent situation or if she is reluctant to get up or walk. Good luck

The fact that she is not her happy self is a bad sign and the fact she is not eating or drinking. I'd go to the vet today based on what you're saying. Even if she is sick and dying, they may be able to make her more comfortable for now. Why have her suffer for 2 more days?

Taking her to the vet is the correct next step. It's understandable that you're worried about her . . .but it's too early to say what's going on. There are many treatable conditions that older dogs can get, so take it one step at a time, and do the best you can. I hope she's better soon.

She might be lonely or depressed...SERIOUSLY! My neighbor used to have a Golden, and he was acting like that for a while, so they got another one to keep him company , and he was back to his regular self in about a week. No the other dog wasn't a girl either. It doesn't even have to be a Golden. They got a Jack Russel. Best of luck!

You and your kin and Vet prefer to make that determination. how you are able to ease her discomfort is putting her down. i'd not in any respect allow an animal of mine lay round in discomfort suffering. i'm not hollering at you; i comprehend how perplexing that's. You do what's staggering on your golden retriever who has given her complete existence for you. She is suffering and in discomfort. in case you supply her discomfort meds what are you attaining? a pair extra weeks? good success...God Bless and that i visit wish for her and also you! ?

First of all, let me say that I'm sorry for your sincere worry.
As a pet owner that has just had this same experience (in November) let me share with you that when they stop eating and drinking that it usually is their time.
Sometimes their little internal organs start to fail. It can be a tell-tale sign.
