I have pug who is diabetic, and was wondering what tablefood he could have. I know it wouldn't be much, but I would like to give him a treat here and there. Thanks.

The veterinarian i work for has a diabetic puppy. She gives him lots of veggies. She gives him cabbage, celery, and green beans. He LOVES them, he thinks they are a real treat. She will sometimes give him carrots, but not too often because they do have some natural sugars. But other than that she usually just sticks to dog treats.

Honestly, you really shouldnt give them anything, its important to have a regulated diet in diabetics. If you must Id give him things like baby carrots or other veggies. You want to avoid carbs, as these are turned into sugars in the body, as well as sugary foods. No dog should get fatty foods like cheese etc. Talk to your vet about diabetic treats, there are a few food companies (like Hills) who make some.

I have a pug and have always heard that you should never give them any table food. They can get really fat. And, if your dog is diabetic, i suspect that it's not thin.

Try Natural Balance dog food in a roll as a treat. My pug loves it. We also feed her Zuke's mini-naturals, and Cloud Star Itty Bitty Buddy Biscuits.

Your dog is diabetes BECAUSE you give him scraps. They make some really good dog treats, stick to those. If you must, only do veggies. Not junk foods.

you shouldn't give any dog any table scraps. thats why they sit and beg for food all the time. my dog has never had people food, shes not even a year old and she never begs when i'm eating. if you want to give him treats get Innova EVO treats, they are grain free so no risk of sugars being in the treats.
