You didn't say if you are male or female, because it make a difference. If you are female you must look for younger men because at your age group there is more women as you may know, so I hope on this date site you have joined you have requested younger men.
Where I live, in the flat above me there is a couple and I gather they have been together for about 18 years, and the woman is 12 years old than her partner. In the flat next door there is another couple and the lady is 15 years older than her partner and they have been together about 7 years. Relationships where the woman is older often work very well, it is just because of tradition that this way round is not so common. In Feudal Britain it was more common for women to marry younger men as they had to provide Dowrys. Any case men age quicker, so you can desire and have a younger man.
If you are a man I would say the opposite there is more women in your age group, so you should have no problem meeting women in their 60 + and remember that Sophie Lauren was voted the most beautiful woman in the world at sixty, so you have the best age group of women to go out with, aren't you a lucky guy.
Places to meet people, well my friend's widowed mother met her second husband at a organisation called cruse, I think, it is for widowed people, so go where there are people who have something in common with you. If you are lucky enough to live in the lake district as you do, perhaps you can join a walking group, I have been on a few with a friend and every one there was about 20 to 30 years older than my friend and I, so we felt really young there. Also there is church and church organisations and charities to join where you can meet retired people.
Don't forget that there are more men in nearly all given societies under 45 years old, and over 50 years old in nearly all given societies there are more women,so go where the surplus is.

I know you are off the beaten track but save the dating money and go to places where us over 50's go. I used to love folk rock in my youth went to a gig yesterday with someone playing I saw when I was 15 it was full of older guys on their own!!! Who really wanted to chat.! What were you into? Butlins do weekends with old bands (they are all grey haired too). Try theatre groups, at least you would enjoy the performances. Saga do singles holidays. If you have a big gym near you join, go and have a look, during the day at the age group, get fit and meet people you might find a toy boy of 40!!! Do you play golf? There's a social side to that. In short go and do lots of things you enjoy and see who turns up. Art classes? Any form fo adult education Get a part time job in a charity shop, get out an meet people and let him find you. Very best of luck.

My mum was widowed at 60 and was desperatly sad and lonley.
She wanted to meet someone else and joined an agency called "Initial approach" they not only match up people but organise social evening and weekends etc .
She did have to pay for this and Im not sure how much, but she did meet her husband through them. they have been married three years now.
In addition to joining this agency, she also started working at a local volunteer centre and although she didn't meet any potiental partners here she did make some new friends some of which she still keeps in touch with inspite of moving away from the area to be with her new hubby.
I miss my dad but Im very glad my mum has found a new chance at happiness.
Hope all goes well .

Of course there is hope, don't give up now you are beginning a new part of your life! Go out once or twice a week regularly to the same place so you can get to know the people around you then take things from there. Good luck!

£500 per year dating services? I'm sure you can find cheaper, or even free on-line dating services. Do they not have some that cater to the older generation. Not that 60 is all that old...

Why not try out a holiday for singles of your age group. That way you get to meet lots of new people and have a chance to get to know them all. Even if you did find the one you're looking for, you will have lost nothing and had a nice holiday!
