I've been playing Tenor Saxophone for 3 years, lately things haven't been right. I can't hit high notes I used to be able too, and things are all squeaky. I tried playing other saxophones, and it's still the same, I think I forgot how to sound good. Does anyone have any advice on this matter?

I also play Contrabass clarinet, and Im doing fine with that. I also sing, I don't think it has anything to do with my breathing ability. Thanks for all the great answers so far.

You won't lose talent. You sound like you're out of shape, or in bad form. Practice hard and pray. You'll get it back. Perhaps it's the technique or something - I can't advise much because I'm an idiot when it comes to wind instruments.

Just try very hard to remember what you did to be able to play good because I'm in a similar situation with my cello playing. When I took a piece of music, I use to break it down piece by piece, write in fingerings, even if there was only four beats in one measure but odd notes like a quarter note and five 24th notes with a half note or something, I would end up counting 16 beats in one measure and end up geting how the music sounded. Anywys I kind of forgot those things but tried to remember why I was able to play soo good. Re-trace your steps just try to remember what you did to become good.

You may just be going through a "down" period. As you age you will likely not be able to play the sax as well due to less breathing capacity. My advice is to do cardio & stick with it.

Keep practicing. You know that you could do it before. Like the first lady said do some cardio.

you cant loose talent, the only thing thats wrong is that youre doubting your talent which makes you seem worse! just remember how great you are and practice as if you never squeeked!
