I do not have an akita, but i love em. I work at a vet clinic, and we have two come in. They are the nicest and most well behaved dogs. We had to take x-rays on Daisy, and most dogs wiggle a lot or even get a little aggressive (not that i blame them, it would be scary). But Daisy just laid nicely on the table in whatever position we needed her to be in. WONDERFUL dogs. You are lucky to have one. Just be sure to socialize her well, and take her to obedience classes so she grows up to be a sweet well behaved adult.

I had one until last year when he died at the early age of 8. What can I say? He was our dog of a lifetime.
Akitas are very special dogs, but there is an awful lot of rubbish talked about the breed.
He didn't mind being left, he listened equally to both of us & adored all humans (although I'm sure he would have defended us to the death if he'd had to) He was also very easy to train as he hated being in trouble!
He wouldn't tolerate other male dogs, that was his only "fault" although it is one of the characteristics of the breed.
Treasure your girl!

they are great dogs that demand time, attention and affection. They will need daily grooming and training. They hate to be left alone, and to the girl who gave the first answer I say DO NOT get one if your husband is the immature jealous type, as this is a one-person dog and he will not cope with having his nose pushed out of joint by a dog!

One of my favorite dogs as a kid. My neighbors had a female named Nikki. She was a cool dog. She always use to come to the patio door, they had a dutch door that always had the top half open. She would always pop her head out and look at me when I walked by. I knew she was looking at me because I was one of the people that she didn't bark at.
