I would like to become a Veterinarian, and would like to know what kind of things are ideal to achieve this. I have been enrolled in FFA (this is the only courses where animals are involved) for two years, and I still have two years to go in High School. I plan on taking four years of Math and Science, but only three years are needed. My grades are not bad, but I do have a 76 under math on my transcript.

In particular, what kind of grades would be ideal to be a Veterinarian?

Other information is welcomed, thanks.

you need excellent grades to get into vet school. Being enrolled in FFA is a big plus. Planning on all those science and math classes are great as well. Normally you will do 4 years of undergrad first. Major in anything you like as long as the prerequsites for vet school are met (usually biology, chemistry, organic chemisty, physics, and other humanities and such). Some schools might think it;s a plus to major in something nonscience (adds diversity points). But vet school is basically all science courses so the more you have as an undergrad the better. Sometimes you can easily double major which will look good on an application (for example, I went to the University of Connecticut and it is not that much extra work to double major in both Pathobiology and Animal Science). You have to get good grades in college from the start. If you don't have a vet school in your state of residence, you should be aiming for at least a 3.6GPA to be competative. Continue with the animal related activities such as FFA. If your undergrad school has a prevet club or other animal clubs joint them. You will also need expereice working or volunterring for a vet. The more time the better. Also the more species the better. There is a huge need for large animal veterinarians so vet expereicne with cattle/horses/swine will be good. Also try to do some undergrad research, this will be another plus on your application. Since you are still in high school you can apply to some schools that have automatic admissions programs. Basically if you are accepted, you complete your undergraduate degree and if you maintatin a specific GPA you are automatically accepted into their vet school. Not all schools have this but i believe Purdue and the University of Illinois do, it is worth checking out. I have attached websites below that provide links to vet schools. Each one will list their requirements for admissions.

Good luck

I dont think HS specific classes will affect it since you need college credits but i would take Biology Chemistry Psychology physics shouldn't really matter if you want to be a veterinarian... Maybe some more math classes and a anatomy class
