The Musee D'Orsay in Paris. Hundreds of Impressionist paintings - room after room of them. Your head will swim as you move from room to room, seeing paintings that you recognise.

Worth every penny!

The Banks Gallery in Portsmouth New Hampshire is the best I have visited. I attended "The Boston School" Show and there were many stunning paintings by historical artists such as Paxton as well as contemporary classical realism artists such as Dana Levin. The Gallery owner is very knowledgeable and friendly. The Banks Gallery has an incredible collection of paintings saturating the walls from many nationally known artists.

The National Gallery in London is bloody good mind. They have a good shop in the sainsbury wing too, and a crap shop somehwere else in the building. There's also a book shop too underneath it. Their restaurant has a nice view of Trafalgar Square, and I did eat in it once but can't remember anything about it other than the biscuit was incredibly inedibly like rock.

And of course, the paintings are pretty jaw droppingly awesome. Rembrandt, Rubens, Michaelangelo, Van Eyck, Leonardo, Holbein, Botticelli, Caravaggio, Frans Hals, Durer, Vermeer, Degas, Manet, Daumier, Corbet...I think it is one of the best collections in the world of European Art from the past 1000 years.

It's around the corner from the National Portrait Gallery (which is like an old woman trying to dance at a disco, plain silly!), and it has nice settee's in to sit and look at the pictures and their hugely thick (sometimes) gold frames.

That's the best one, but The V&A is my favourite.

I say The Victoria & Albert Museum occupies a gorgeous facility near Kensington Gardens and displays an extensive collection of decorative arts. In fact, it boasts more than 4 million objects in 146 galleries. Highlighting cultures from around the world, exhibits are organized by country, material, and time period. Indian art is well-represented and awe-inspiring. Past exhibits have included a showcase of Art Nouveau sculptures and paintings from around the world. TUBE: South Kensington

Try it sometime you might like it, have a nice weekend skycat

I think because it was the first I ever went to, and hosts some wonderful temporary exhibitions alongside one of the best eclectic permanent mix of art from so many artists, it has to be the original Tate Gallery. It just gets better all the time

The Tate modern is amazing if you like modern art, but if your into the more traditional stuff the national gallery is pretty good. (Both galleries are in London)
