Hi

BBC4 Radio has been researched this for many years, the first quote below: no luck. I have devoted hours and have gotten no closer, does sound like Goethe as he said "Preserve me" often.

Help me to discover Thy truth, O Lord, and preserve me from those who have already found it’ – is attributed (like so much else) to Goethe.

'Follow those who are seeking the truth,
but run away from those who have found it"

“Seek the seekers of the
Truth, and run from those who have found it!'

‘Lord, help me to always seek the truth, but deliver me from those who have found it.

God, help me find the truth and deliver me from those who have already found it. ...

Here's a little something Mark Twain said on the subject:

"We are always hearing of people who are around seeking after the Truth. I have never seen a (permanent) specimen. I think he has never lived. But I have seen several entirely sincere people who thought they were (permanent) Seekers after the Truth. They sought diligently, persistently, carefully, cautiously, profoundly, with perfect honesty and nicely adjusted judgment- until they believed that without doubt or question they had found the Truth. That was the end of the search. The man spent the rest of his life hunting up shingles wherewith to protect his Truth from the weather."

I don't know about the quotation you cite. I suspect it's been said by a lot of people in a lot of different ways. You might try Vaclav Havel. I'm not sure and don't have time to research it, but Havel might have said it or at least something similar. Good luck. Let me know what you find out. My email is here at YA.
