I would apply for jobs as a junior engineer in manufacturing facilities.
Anybody who manufactures products and has a substantial engineering department.
A company who's shop floor is unionized is a prime target because administration has to answer to the unionized work force. This is important because then management can not badger the workers with endless escalating requests.
This will create opprtunities in quality control, work methods and improvement, fixturing, tooling, health and safety, customer liason, and so forth.
Drop your resumes off personally, your smiling face will do much more than just another E-mail.

I just graduated with a degree in IE from a reputable university. I currently design factory floor plans to optimize space and flow. I have friends from school who are in technical sales, floor supervisors, quality engineers, etc.

PS, the figures the previous poster listed are inaccurate. The current starting salary average for an IE is about $55K.
