Anyone in the healthcare industry knows about Methadone and what it is used for, and how effective it is. That is likely why your doctor has you on it. Anyone else's uneducated opinion doesn't really matter, now does it? You need to be more concerned with your own opinions and knowledge, and a lot less concerned with what uneducation, opinionated jerks in the general population think.
Congratulations on getting on the road to wellness and freedom.

I'm sorry that you can't spell DOES.

You have to understand a lot of people take methadone incorrectly. You don't HAVE to take methadone to get off drugs. You can take it if you are afraid to quit cold turkey. Stopping opiates (morphine, heroin, etc) is not going to kill you. You may wish you were dead because the withdrawal is pretty bad, but you won't die.

Remember, even when you get off the methadone, you are still going to go through withdrawal. And it will still be pretty unpleasant. I've seen it many times.

I wish you the best of luck and I hope you are going to Narcotics Anonymous meetings a lot. http://www.na.org

Methadone is the lesser of the evils. Under a doc's care, for someone addicted to dangerous drugs like you were, it is a way to break the addiction slowly and safely. It would be a potentially addictive and dangerous drug if used recreationally.

As someone who works with patients on methadone, I can say that it does help the patient in overcoming their addiction to drugs.
Methadone substitues the need for heroin and reduces the cravings associated with heroin use. However I have also seen cases where patients fail to stick with their methadone program and continue heroin and other drug useage.
I hope you can continue to stay clean and hope you can finish your program in the summer.
Good luck with everything in the future.

Methadone can be used for 2 reasons-one is for people who are addicted to drugs to help them get off of them. The other reason is for severe, constant pain, like those with cancer.

The biggest problem with prescribing methadone is that it is a narcotic in and of itself. While it may help you come off of the drug you addicted to, you may become addicted to methadone itself.

I want to congratulate you on coming off those other drugs... but I personally don't think that any toxin like methadone is doing your body any good. Keep working at getting yourself off it and into real life. You might want the boost that the energy therapy e f t can give to you.... you can learn it yourself and apply it daily. Everyone knows the highly addictive nature of "hillbilly heroin." This is not a Lib vs. Con issue, if Rush can be addicted, anyone can! We all have faults. You, more than most, should realize that addictions have no discrimination.
