it is important not to stress a cat especially not an old cat of 18.
some of the over the counter tick remedies are quite toxic'
your best course is to take your cat toa professional Vet
who , with consideration of her age ,
will give her ,
one of the latest, 'spot on' treatments for ticks
The vet will also remove the ticks,
that are feasting on your cat right now
I hope she will feel a whole lot more comfortable,
without those parasites to trouble her
all best

The safest treatment for ticks on cats is Frontline. You can get it from your vet, or online. Most of the other treatments in the pet supply stores, including sprays, shampoos, or spot-on products contain older pesticides which are not as safe, especially for a cat that old. You can also help by removing the ticks manually- get a tick removal device from your vet or the pet supply store. Also, if she's "slowing down", why not bring her in and have the vet check her out?

You can get a tick remover which is a small wire device that fits over tick and pulls it right out,I put some alcohol on a tissue and soak the tick leave it for a while this relaxes the ticks hold and it is easier to come out.I got mine from a pet shop.

in the experience that your cat is indoors purely, you do no longer produce different animals entering your house and you're no longer seeing fleas or ticks, you in all probability do no longer could use something. while you're worried approximately flea issues, Frontline and benefit are extra effective products. although, any topical scientific care has the flair to reason hair loss and sensitivity. some cats do no longer tolerate those chemical compounds. The dish cleansing soap and a flea comb approach isn't thoroughly efficient (and is time-eating so maximum individuals won't do it). as far as shaking Borax throughout your place, you are able to. i might advise an IGR (insect advance regulator) spray as a exchange -those are familiar to be efficient.

Whatever treatments you chose, please don't use Hartz tick treatment for cats. My vet told me she's known of several cats who died after being treated with that, and that Hartz has an agreement to stop making it, but they can still sell whats left. My cat was seriously ill after I used it on her. So, safest way for an old cat is Frontline, or any veterinarian approved treatment. Or, if she doesn't mind, keep her inside now. It would be safer for her anyway.

Frontline or similar product from your vet should work well.
DO NOT use the OTC spt treatments found at most stores, these are very dangerous and deadly to cats.
