Tell Your mom exactley what you wrote on here. That your afraid of what might happen.

Maybe you could give it a shot for a couple of days in gym class and if at any time it becomes painful let your mom know that it is hurting you and you would like to switch out of gym class.

Good Luck

man I feel your pain when I was in 8th and 9th grade I kept getting an ingrown nail removed and the third time they did the perm removal thing DO NOT I REPEAT DO NOT DO IT it totally sucks I'm 35 now and believe me they CAN NOT perm remove a nail what you will have is this gross nail that grows out of your toe that will cause people to look at your foot/feet and go "What's wrong with your toe?!?" Do research. Try soaking your feet in hot water to soften the nails as they grow back. This might take a LONG time but it is better to soak for a few months than have to go through what I have to. I literally have to use a grinding wheel on my toenail 3 or 4 times a year to cut it. Think about it I have to use a tool that can cut through metal and slowly grind off this really thick nail. I hope I'm not scaring you but seriously take care of this now. Don't do anything that someone will step on your feet. No way to kicking either!! Picture bloody socks and throbbing toes.
Find a new doctor tell someone don't let them "kill" the toenail!!! Show my letter to your mom you will never wear sandals again I'm totally serious.
UPDATE:
I just read something that might help ask your doctor about, reshaping the soft tissue around the nail. I would think that it would look way better cosmectically than removing the nail.

NOOOOO!! Have your doctor write a note saying you are not allowed to do any gym activity for 2-4 weeks! That will not effect your grade - have your teacher work with you on what you can do to make up for the lost time, like go to the library and write a paper.

You need to (1st) tell your mother. Let her take you to the Doctor. I ended up having surgery and having the toenail partially removed. It was done under local anesthesia, but it was surgery and I had to wear special shoes for months. Talk to her about it and get her to help you keep this from happening again. That's what Moms are for!

Next time you go to the podiatrist just have them permanently remove the ingrown toenail. I had one done that way and haven't had a problem since.

Get the doctor to advise you to stay out of gym class this semester.

you know if they get too bad, the doctor will have to put acid on the toe to keep the toenails from ever coming back. thats gross though.
