Brush your teeth 2 to 3 times a day and every time before you go out (especially on a date). Every night floss to get all the junk out of your mouth. Also use a mouth wash 1 to 2 times a day. and MOST importantly with a toothbrush (or buy a special tongue cleaning brush, i bought oral B tongue brush on sale for $1.99) brush your tongue GENTLY and brush the insides of your mouth daily. Every morning or every night. Not many people know that we should all be brushing our tongues and cheeks. And I had heard years ago about brushing tongues for fresh breath but I never knew that dead skin cells that hold bacteria will turn your tongue white and sometimes even BLACK. If you smoke or chew tobacco, etc you may develop black hairy tongue. It is called that because it is black and looks hairy. And the simple solution to cure that (or white tongues) is just to brush it everyday. You can brush with or without toothpaste. Rinse your toothbrush under hot water in between brushing strokes and after you brush your teeth.
This will help improve your breath dramatically!

Drink lots of water regularly, brush after EVERY meal, make sure you're not constipated (laxatives if you are) and floss or use dentisticks to get between the teeth where the brush can't reach. This is where you get build ups of stale food and bacteria that produce the sulphur compiunds that cause bad breath. Get a clinical mouthwash as well from a pharmacist to kick start the process.
Then, if all that fails, dump her.

Drink a lot of water. Most bad breath comes from the acids in your stomach, not food caught on your teeth. If you are not hydrated properly, bad breath may result. Of course it's always good to brush and floss regularly. Try drinking enough water!
Good Luck!

Apart from good oral hygiene have you seen your dentist recently as decaying teeth can cause bad breath. If it is not this but you have a furred up tongue eat fresh pineapple on a regular basis - this really cleans the mouth and gets ride of halitosis whilst giving you one of your "five a day" at the same time.

I guess most of the other replies say it all.
Brush twice a day, use dental floss and avoid food that is too spicy.
For some people their stomach can have a reaction to dairy products. Try soya products or goats milk etc, give it a try for a couple of weeks and see if that helps.

Try buying peppermint oil capsules; that helps fight bad breath from further down than mouthwash. Plus, brushing well, flossing and brushing your tongue can help get rid of the bacteria that cause it.

Good dental hygiene obviously but also you may need to pay more attention to your diet as this is where the problem usually starts. Your girlfriend is plainly very caring to want you to know about this difficulty so don't think less of her for telling you. Good luck!
