So how many of you natural ladies use shea butter for you hair?

I'm thinking about switching to that instead of hair grease. I've been natural for 5 years, but sadly I still dont know many other natural women... just a few, and they still use grease too lol.

I used hair grease because it worked when I was a kid with natural hair - sort of a "go for what you know" thing.

I know natural hair and natural products seem to go hand in hand, but I didnt want to wait until I found the most "earthy" product to go natural.

Thanks - and keep the comments coming!

Yes, if I were you I'd switch to Shea butter right now!! I don't know why your using grease, it has mineral oil or petroleum in it and that's really bad for your hair. I mean think about it, doesn't it make sense to use natural products on natural hair?? When you buy you Shea butter it's best to make sure it's unrefined, the best way to do that is buy it straight from Africa. If you live in an area with a large African population, you can ask them where they get their Shea butter from, and trust me they'll know what your talking about, they might even try to sell you some there self. If not I supplied a link to the site where I buy my Shea butter from. I bought the 5 pound tub over a year ago and I still have a lot left, so there's no need to go crazy and buy 25 pounds (unless you want to).

To use it: take a small glob and put it in the palm of your hands, then rub them together until the product softens and apply it to your hair. Or you can be lazy like me and put it in the microwave for a few seconds.

While you're at it, you might also want to buy some coconut oil for your hair. You can buy it a whole food stores; it comes in a jar and it says that it's used for cooking.

Anything containing petroleum or mineral oil is not all that good for your hair, they just sit on the hair not doing anything and using mineral oil can in time cause thinning hair. I use a water based oil lotion and petroleum free creams. I love shea butter. You can find it in oils too. I went natural for about a year after I cut off a damaged relaxer. I also used oils like rosemary mixed with jojoba and it made my hair really shiny. I never combed it while it was dry and I did a conditioner wash every two days with a really good moisturizing conditioner. I washed and conditioned my hair every three days, braided it while it was wet, wore it under a fitted satin cap at night... now my hair is near mid-back length, I do have a relaxer now, but I waited about a year and a half.

I never heard of this but I sometimes try this: and egg (the yolk) few spoons of olive oil and some lemon juice. You keep it for 15 min and massage. It makes the hair shiny and healthy.
