I had a neutered, male cat that did the same thing. He was also a taller cat and I had a hard time finding a litterbox that he wouldn't pee over onto the floor. I ended up buying a rubbermaid type tote container (I don't think it was actually rubbermaid). I used a hot knive and cut out an openning in one side as an entry opening. It worked great. He never peed over the edge onto the floor again. You still would have to clean the inside walls of the box, but that is a whole lot better than cleaning the carpet. Sometimes you have to work with your cat's quirky behavior. Good luck.

He'll spray even if he is fixed. This is how he pees. Having him neutered doesn't change that. Neutering him might keep him from marking territory as much - that's when they pee on stuff to leave a signal to other cats that there's a tomcat here already, so keep off!

You'll never be able to train him to not do this, unless you want to stand over him every single time he uses the litter box. Cats have strong habits, and they're tough to break sometimes.

Look for a litter box that has a lip that comes down INSIDE the litter box. That way any drips stay inside.

Put a mat or several layers of cardboard or newspaper or something like that down under the box for now, to catch the drips.

I always buy a large plastic table cloth(flannel backed) at the dollar store. I fold it in half and put this under my litter boxes. This helps also to catch a lot of litter,as I don't use the covered boxes. It would keep anything from going on your rug.

i had my cat nuetered and the spraying did not stop, my vet told me it wont stop cause i got him neutered to late. Once he starts its hard to stop if you can stop it at all.
