when you take meat out to defrost why dose blood end up outside the bag?

As the liquid unfreezes it overflows the tray and spill into the fridge. Always place a plate or additional tray under thawing meat to reduce cross contamination and food borne pathogens. It also makes clean up easier.

Great question, as when you bought the product, it had no blood leaking out of if, and once you begin to defrost it, there's a stream of blood. I have always wondered that also, because I take it directly from the market and freeze it, in between that time perhaps a slight punctured hole was made and when the defrosting began the excess blood from the meet seeped out into the bag. When I know there is no hole there, my only thought is that the meat was not packaged tightly enough to suppress the leaking of the blood. Make sense? Enjoy and be Safe..(smiles)

Usually the bag has become punctured after it was frozen, this is caused by many things, and as it thaws out, the blood simply leaks out. If the meat was frozen when you purchased it, there was probably some blood on the outside of the bag containing your meat when it was frozen at the slaughter house, and as it warms up again, condensation forms from moisture in the air, and what frozen dry blood there is disolves in the water droplets and becomes visible.

It might have been a tear in different parts of the bag,when frozen its not noticeable, but when thawed it pours out.
