I'm a martial artist and I like to wear wrist , body, and ankle weights to improve my speed. But unlike most people I wear them 24/7. But some people tell me that that can cause water to built up in the knee. But I have a few friends that do this too and don't have problems. So whats the deal can wearing ankle weights really cause water in the knee

Water on the knee is just a old term for inflammation from arthritis or bursitis. Wearing weights won't cause these problems as long as you don't use too much weight (build up slowly) and don't over do it (heavy weight + sudden movements = tear!)

I did that too.

I advise against wearing them 24/7, however. The longest I wore them was 8 hours a day. I routinely wore my legweights under my scrubs at work and went through my day with both leg and wrist. I laid out the money for the good ones... not the sand ones that slosh when you move and they were adjustable (slots on them to insert weights). My boss told me I could not wear sloshing weights at work.

If you do not wear heavy ones you should not have any problem.

So long as you don't wear them too long or too heavy you'll be fine. Too much weight or for too long can mess up your joints. This is also why shadowboxing with heavy weights like in The Rocky movies is a patently bad idea.

Having a historic previous of knee problems i'd propose going to work out an orthopedic expert in the previous you do any further squats. it would desire to be no longer something, or it would desire to be some thing worse like torn cartilidge or tendonitis or inflammed tissue.
