Absolutely. I stunk in 9th grade then I had to repeat it..but i changed to an alternative school. I got serious and stayed after almost everyday for help..i wasnt afraid to ask questions and i showed up for school early to work on stuff too. At the end i was number 4 out of top graduating senors..unfortunately they only gave the awards to the top 3...but yes I had an opportunity to go to some good colleges...but I didnt accept them because i dont want to leave home. Im going to a community college when i save enough money..Just study hard do your best, and college will happen for you.

College is always an option. It's a good thing taht you're realizing that you have to turn things around now before it's too late :)
Freshman year does count, but most colleges won't count it as much as your other grades. Just work really hard from now on =] Get in a sport or an extra curricular or two =]
Also, volunteering and community service looks great on your app!

My opinion is that you have 3/4 of your high school career left to go. Even with horrible grades, you can still bring up your overall GPA. The later you make the decision to do so, the harder it will be (because the weight of the average will already be past).
AND, I think some colleges, would look very favorably on someone who pulled themselves up by their bootstraps, decided to clean themselves up academically and apply themselves to getting good grades during their final 3 years of HS. They might ask you why your first year was so low, and you already have the perfect answer!
Best of luck!

If you turn your grades around and do great the rest of your high school career, you will get consideration from colleges. In fact, colleges really like seeing students who started off poorly and greatly improved. Bad fall semester freshman year grades won't exclude you from considerations is you improved.

At this point I would just give up. If your grades are not that good at this point no college will look at you. I would consider dropping out of school.

Absolutely. My advise to you would be to (and I know this may be hard) but to focus more on your studies for a little while and start your social life when you are finished studying and finished with your homework - completely. Good luck in the next four years!

Colleges only really look at your late junior to senior year grades so I wouldn't worry about anything.
