I use WinAVI to encode the movie first (usually about 20 minutes) and Nero to burn to dvd....a program like DvDSanta will do the same, but takes a bit longer, but Nero also has a built-in encoder that takes much longer (but saves a lot of shopping around) and you can set it to burn the file to dvd as soon as the encode finishes...if I'm not mistaken, WinAVI and DvDSanta also have encode and burn capabilities.

DVD Decrypter and then DVD Shrink which has a burning feature.
I've used these two to make many backups of my DVDs ; )
1 backup each of course.
Did I mention both were free?

Dvd Shrink is probably the best, but I'll have to ask my dad I'll answer you back soon as I can.
