I bought some ground beef 2 days ago. It was bright red at that time. Now it turned to sort of brown. Does it mean that it has gone bad ?

I wouldn't eat it! Once you buy meat, you should put it in the freezer until you are ready to cook it. It will stay red and the flavor will still be there. Also, don't ever put meat from the freezer into the refrigerator and then back into the freezer.

The reason the meat turned brown on the outside is because air got to it. The meat on the inside should still be pink. Either way, go by the date on the package- there should be a "Use By" day/date on it. If you don't use it by that date, wrap it tightly and put it in the freezer. It's hard to say how long to keep it in the refrigerator as you don't know how long it was at the store before you bought it! It's always best to go by the date on the package just to be safe.

No offense Sandee but it's the reverse.

Cooked will last longer than uncooked because you've killed any bacteria by cooking it. (Of course new bacteria can grow on it).

Nevertheless, ground beef has a shorter shelf life than steaks, roasts etc. I would give ground beef no more than 3 days in the fridge.

when it turns brown, that usually means it's been exposed to air, like fruits when you take a bite out of them and leave it without being wrapped, it turns brown. it's not bad if it's onlly 2 days ago. if you're still worried, cook the meat. if it smells rancid, (bad meat smells disgusting when cooked) it's gone bad.

Yes, usually. Especially if it smells different than when you bought it. Check the date on the package that says use by or sell by.
If it's ast that date throw it out. If not, return meat to store for refund.

The color change does not mean it's bad, but you do need to cook it very soon. If it smells bad, throw it away.
