It is so easy. Read a verse from Jesus that is of interest to you. Then close your eyes and mentally ask the Holy Spirit to witness to you, witness what you have been wondering about that verse.
You can't miss it. The Holy Spirit will witness to you mentally, emotionally, and even physically (within the chills that will go up and down your back). You may even cry with happiness.
(I don't do it very often, because sometimes it makes me so happy that I want to die.)
PS: e-mail me if you want some really nice variations to what the Holy Spirit can witness to you. (Galatians 5:22 &23 will guide you into recognizing the Holy Spirit during your daily routine.)

Well first of all the Holy Spirit is like a person, but he doesnt have a body, so thats why its the Holy Spirit; and this Spirit was put on Earth to help us, Gods children, on our journey back home, which is heaven!...Now this Spirit can be with you anytime u need him to be, and it can also be with more than one at the same time!...The Holy Spirits purpose is to guide us in Gods direction, sort of like personal revelation in our lives, it can also be there to help u discern truth from false. like u want to know if something comes from God or not, and it also helps us by comforting us!....Now to the question how can we discern this spirit, well many people experience it differently and have different explanations, but overall this is how it is, u feel happy inside, u feel peaceful, u feel loved, u feel free!....I personaly feel like someone actually huggin me, i feel "gossbumbs" all over my face and body, and the hair in my arms sort of stand!...Its a beautiful feeling, i actually feel it when i pray, or when i hear somethin really nice thats godly, or when i hear a song that touches my heart!...So yeah thats how u know!...The Holy Spirit is here for everyone i hope that thats what u've been feelin!...Well take care!

It is most easily discerned when you feel like you should be doing something which is really good for another person......even when you really don't want to.
After you get used to the Holy Spirit's prompting in your life, you begin to recognize when God is leading you......or preventing you from doing something foolish.

The Holy Spirit ALWAYS testifies of and glorifes Jesus Christ. That's how you know that it is Him. That is the only true and Biblical answer (read John chapters 14 - 16 and you'll see that Jesus Himself says this)
If there is a "spirit" involved that doesn't testify that Jesus is the ONLY way of salvation, then it is not the Holy Spirit.

"God dwelleth in us, and....we dwell in him" (1 Jn. 4:12, 13). Note that we are said to "dwell in" God. Do we dwell in God personally, directly? No. Rather, we are said to dwell in God when we keep his commandments (1 Jn. 2:5). If we live after the flesh, after the lusts of this world, we have no fellowship with God, no association with him; he does not live in us, and we do not live in him (1 Jn. 1:6).
We might say that if something seems to be of the Holy Spirit, yet it stands in opposition to all that Christ revealed in His life, actions, and words, then the "something" is probably not of the Holy Spirit.

Galatians 5:22
"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,"
When you feel the spirit it should always feel good and peaceful in your heart, and come with a feeling of clarity in your mind. It is gentle, quiet, often described as "the still small voice" for a reason; it's just not the same as adrenaline, or excitement, and it should never feell confusing.
thanks

I feel the holy spirit every time I wipe my bum. At least that sounds more reasonable to me than discerning a make believe story!

For me, it is when I feel a sense of peace and joy. At times it is so strong that I have a sense of clarity that I normally do not feel.
