My advice is get rid of the Nationwide clowns asap! I had Nationwide and switched my homeowner's with a local insurance company and it knocked my yearly insurance premium in half!! Shop around a bit and you will find a lot of places that will not ream you from both ends!!!

I don't have any experience with Nationwide other than a lot of ugly neon "Prom Promise" stuff from high school. My mother had some flood damage and Allstate payed her claim immediately. The adjuster came to the house the next day and she had insurance money in time to pay the contractor before he was even done fixing the floor (about 2 weeks). That may be faster than average but 2 years is obviously outrageous.

Honestly insurance companies are not in the business of paying on claims. Their business is accepting your payments while hoping you never try to file a claim. 2 years though probably indicates that either someone totally screwed up your paperwork, and din't want to admit it, or they found your claim to be suspicious, and were investigating, or any combination thereof (ie. suspicions raised by improperly filed forms.

If it took 2 year to get a response, you asked the wrong person. If it took 2 years to get the claim paid, we need more information to determine if that is their fault of yours.
