Neither. In general, groups like Jews for Jesus and other Messianic groups were started by groups of Christians as an outreach to Jews. The goal of such groups is to recognize Jewish culture, tradition, and religion, and its "completion" within Christianity. Messianic Jews would definitely consider themselves Jewish, although most Reform, Reconstructionist, Conservative, or Orthodox Jews would consider them converts to Christianity and non-Jewish.

It is NOT Judaism AT ALL.
Messianic "Judaism" is an attempt to convert Jews away from their traditions. It is also a place for Chr*stians to go and bash Chr*stianity--they claim they are too good to be Chr*stian. Messianism is NOT a good thing.

It is a "denomination" no different than people that insist on calling themselves "baptists" or "meothodists", for instance.
None of these titles is a guarantee of salvation. Salvation is only by believing that Jesus, who is God, died for your sins and rose again.

Jews consider Jews-for-Jesus to be much like those pesky Christians that go door-to-door peddling their religion. You can read more here.

messianic "judaism" is identical to protestant christianity, but with a few jewish symbols thrown in to make jewish people think they aren't actually leaving their religion.
