Going to LA for a 5 night break at the beginning of April. Any advice on the top places to go that I don't want to miss!! Only have 5 days and want to see as much as pos. Planning a day at Universal but not bothered about Disney. We're staying just off Sunset Boulevard and want to go to as many places in the city as we can!!!
Thank you!!!

Universal is a Must. We also did a tour of the Stars homes which included a "Hollywood walk of fame tour", along the stars, tour as well, with headphones and the guide was british and a scream. It was very informative as well though.

We also got taken high up into the hills for a photo op with the Hollywood sign behind us. The Kodak theatre and Mann's Chinese are worth it too and close together. There is a walkway near the Kodak theatre and if you go up it you have a clear view of the Hollywood sign so you can have a nice photo opportunity there if you don't want to do the Homes tour (its not for everyone but we had a laugh)

We also did a nighttime ghost tour and that was a laugh, just took you to the site of famous murders and burials. It certainly did get very spooky at one point.

If you want to shop then I would say make The Farmers Market your first top, nice shops, plenty of places to eat and pretty central.

We got around the city by public transport and that saved us loads of cash.......very easy and they are very helpful.

Manhattan beach and hermosa beach are lovely small beach areas a few miles north of LAX. Both have a lively night life and and are great for people watching. Hermosa is a bit younger than manhattan beach. Can also hire skates or bikes and ride along the beach path down to redondo and king harbour. I love that area, i'll be there in march can't wait. 6 flags magic mountain is also a fantastic theme park with some of the biggest and fastest rides in the world.

As you appear to be youngish person, I would recommend you plan one day around the Hollywood area, if only to see how it's not a glamorous as people think.

Plan one day in the Venice/Santa Monica area. It won't be tanning weather, but there will be plenty to see and do.

Consider the newly refurbished Griffith observatory, the newly refurbished Getty Museum in Malibu, or one of historic sites.

Don't knock shopping. You haven't see Melrose Boulevard.
