How can someone help society bring changes? Like helping the poor, building more shelters, providing more jobs. Are these jobs of politicians? what job? When I grow up, I want to help the poor and those not as fortunate.

I feel as a missionairy I wouldn't be helping as much. I guess the best way would be mayor or President or something along those lines.

Private organisations are a better bet than working for the government to do these jobs.

Red Cross, Covenant House, AmeriCorp, Peace Corp., etc. These types of orgs do a better job.

Hope this helps.

Well, social workers used to have stellar reputations as did ministers and others of charitable causes. For now observe and learn. Do what you can in your neigborhood, reclaim graffitti ridden areas and work with local police to make things better. Americorps is a good place to start.

During the Depression years, the government made work for needy citizens, fixing highways, roads and building projects like Hoover Dam. The same type of innovative thinking could produce vehicles and new inventions for the betterment of American Society.

This is the job of scholars. Until a person knows what causes poverty to continue - despite desperate and laborious efforts of genuine people (like you seem to be), despite enormous amounts of money spent - until we know why poverty still persists, our efforts are in vain.

The two most widely accepted causes are: rapid population growth and low average education.

China stayed horribly poor for centuries until the "One Child Policy" was implemented. Within 28 years, that country has taken second or third place in almost every measure of economic success.

Why? Infants and children are huge resource sinks (like black holes in space). Their payoff as adults is huge - IF they are properly invested in as children. Chinese school teachers recently interviewed recounted that in the mid-eighties, first grade classrooms, in a single year, shrank from over 90 kids per teacher to less than 10 (in some cases).

Ten kids to a teacher?!?!?! That's a private, preppy-style school!!! That generation was the first in Chinese history to be treated with the kind of genuine respect that promises them a fighting chance in the modern world.

And, as a rich nation, China will be in an excellent position to help the poor in coming decades.

Hope that helps!

Politicians are limited in what they can change socially. It would be better to join a private charitable organization. Short of that you could donate to charities, work with a local church group, or organize your own organization to target helping those you feel need your help.

The old saying, charity begins at home is also very relevant. Don't forget to help those closest to you succeed in life.

Become a writer. Words are power. Write of what you see. Where you see it. The media is a very powerful tool.
