Your dog is a dominant dog and is aggressive when with his/her owner. Not all that uncommon, but still a problem behavior. What type of dog is this? I'm guessing something from the Working Group (or a mixture of that), but even if it's not, still not all that uncommon. When you have your dog on a leash, he/she should be looking to YOU for guidance/protection, not the other way around. You need to let your dog know that you're there to protect him and that he is the submissive one in your little "pack". His role is to walk nicely with you and let you handle everything else. Some good training would probably do him some good.

He is protecting you from the other dog - they are very territorial. You don't want to allow this behavior though because he might in later years bite another dog which is never good. What you want to do is tap his nose to get his attention and say (not yelling but in an authoritive voice) "no bark". If that doesn't stop it you can try to put your pointer finger and your thumb around him mouth (just to get his attention) and say "No!" Do this each time when he does it so that you can stop this bad behavior. You can't get too mad at you though because he is just trying to protect you however you just don't want it to go further. Good Luck!

he or she is showing how good a guard dog they are. otherwise lets play. i had a dog that would sleep with the cat until he saw one of us, and then he would give chase and bark. go figure.
