My family is looking to install a fence around our yard. Originally we planned for a privacy fence, but they are really pricey. We have a rottweiler puppy and I am unsure if a split rail fence with the wire on one side will keep her in when she is full grown. The fence would be about 4 feet tall. I would hate to install the split rail and find out in a few months we have to go back and do the privacy fence anyway.

Well if you work on your dog once it's installed yes but a rottie can clear a four foot fence easy if there is something on the other side that it really wants. you could do a split rail taller and get taller wire or just do the privacey fence I think you would be happer in the long run.

I have a full grown female Rottweiler. We also have a fence that my dad installed years ago. I would bet that if Roxsy really wanted to get out, she could clear the 4 foot fence, I have seen her jump many times. The fence is a good idea, I think maybe a bit higher then 4 feet. Once you install the fence, start getting her used to it, and start letting her know her boundaries. This may help, they are very intelligent so she should learn fast. But, they are very strong and powerful dogs, females as well as males. Go with the fence, and as she grows older, perhaps the pup will just enjoy lying in the yard watching the world go by, but the fence should be higher.Enjoy your Rottie, they are wonderful, loving, and very loyal pets.

Actually, a wire fence can really hurt a dog. I would suggest paying a little extra money now instead paying a lot for expensive vet bills in the future. I have known a lot of dogs that have gotten paws stuck in the wires, nose, ears, and so on and got badly hurt. You might want to think about an electric fence. It goes under the ground and your dog will have a special collar for him to wear. My neighbord did this with their golden ret. and they only used it once. The dog was so surprised they never had to use it again and the dog stayed in the yard. It is like they know exactly where they can go in the yard - the last inch. Sounds mean however I think a rott can handle it.

If you are trying to keep a full grown Rottweiler in your backyard, your best bet is a privacy fence with a minimum height of 6'. Save yourself the hassle of having to tear down the fence at a later date and just do it right the first time.

Well Rotties are very strong so if she really wants to get out most fences would be hard to keep her in! lol

But if you do really want this type of fence and your worried about her getting out try an invisible fence that come with the collar for her.

That way you can have your fence and she will stay safely inside of it.

I don't think this type of fence would work for a full grown rottweiler. Maybe for the time being, but not once he is grown. My neighbors had to put up a 8 foot chainlink to keep their rotts from jumping over.

My old neighbors had a split rail fence with a couple of really nasty Chows. They never got out.

split rail WITH a wire liner will probably hold him (unless he's a hodini that would get out of a high security prison) Put the wire on the INSIDE so pushing on it cant pop the nails holding the wire out

That's a tough call. I'd just do the taller fence and be done with it.
