Price? Safety? Fuel Economy? Performance? Versatility?

Would you pay cash using your own money or look to get financing through a credit union, bank or someone you know?

Price and Performace does it for me.

I would resort to car payments only if totally necessary. If I had the cash to buy whatever I'm considering, I would pay the cash. There's nothing (car-wise) that gives you more Peace-Of-Mind than having the Title in your possession.

Financing through a Bank vs. Credit Union -- I would choose the credit union. Sometimes they offer better Interest Rates.

I would never resort to "borrowing" money from someone I know. It's a horrible feeling for me. I'd rather finance from a bank than borrow from a friend or family member. Doesn't mix well!

Good luck with whatever you do!

Price and fuel economy are most important to me when considering the make/model of a car I'm looking for, but then I also test-drive it to get a feel for the individual performance.

I've never bought a new car, only used. I would much rather pay cash using my own money, but I realize that for many people this is not a viable option. I have family that I borrowed money from, as so not to worry about credit financing, but I realize that for many people this is also not a viable option. In that case, I would try to finance through a bank if possible.

The most important things that I consider are safety, fuel economy & performance. I finance my car loan through a credit union. As a college student, I couldn't afford to buy my car with cash. The good thing about financing is that it helps to build credit, in my case.
