I had a vaginal ultrasound at my first appt (8 weeks) to determine due date and single/multiple birth. Usually the ultrasound that is done "over the belly" is at about 18 to 20 weeks (I had mine at 18 wks). At that time they take a boatload of measurements of fetal development and can also tell you the sex of the baby, if you want to know. Timing for the ultrasound could be dependant on one's age as well. I am older and was given a choice of AFP blood test or amnio to test for birth defects. Depending on which I chose, would determine when I would get the ultrasound (I picked the AFP blood test). If the ultrasound is "normal" and the tech was able to get all the stats he/she needed, then another ultrasound is not usually necessary.

During my first pregnancy I had an ultrasound at every appointment, but in my second pregnancy it was a different doctor and he only did two ultrasounds, the first one to confirm the pregnancy, and the second because I requested to know the sex of the baby.

depends on the situation, i found out i was pregnant and didn't know when my last period was, so they did an ultrasound to give me a due date, then i had my 20 week ultrasound, he was a little small so they did another one at 24 weeks to check growth, and he's doing great.
i'm now 27 weeks and doing great!

With my first I had only one at 20 weeks. With my second I had one at 8 wks and then again at 20. Both were normal pregnancies. I had different doctors each time.

Usually around 20 weeks for the first one. However if there are complications or questions about actual fetal age, earlier ones can be performed.
Good luck !: )

I got one at 7 weeks to confirm my due date, then another at 20 weeks to check for abnormailites, and that's when I found out the sex.

It depends on your insurance and how many they will cover. My insurance company only covers 1 ultrasound unless it is medically necessary to do more, so I had my ultrasound at 20 weeks.
