He came home from the vet yesterday (he was neutered) but I didn't see it then, and they didn't say anything about it. Is there a reason they would shave his leg? If not, is there a reason for this?

He's a ten month old wire haired Jack Russell.
Thanks, I was freaked out because I saw him nibbling and licking the area.

they had to shave a spot on his leg for the iv they used to administer the medication and anesthesia. dont worry it will grow back soon. the veterinarian has to use a vein in his leg (like the one in the bend of our arms) to give shots and iv's.

Well they could have shaved it if they were giving him an IV. If you're worried just ask the vet, if they did shave him they'll let you know. Dogs can also cause it themselves by itching and biting a certain area for a long period of time. The hair goes away and it's called a "hot spot."

well one thing if youre vet didnt even say anything about the patch after they shaved it then i will just check out at the another vet clinic by calling them ask them if its alright for having a missing patch of youre dog leg cause most veterniary's doesnt do thier job and say much about after they done the jobs so i will just change youre vet doctor and get a good one .i dont want to tell u the rest but i hope that you wil l hear something others ideas from some other ppl out there.

Dogs get a spot of hair on their leg shaved if a shot is involved. If it is not a clean cut looking patch of hair (like if you think it wasnt shaved) then i would take the dog back to the vet to see if something might have gone wrong

Well, look at the spot - is it red? Dry? Scaly? etc. Take him back to the Vet and have it checked out. Could be allergies or bugs.
OR
Does it look like the shaver 'slipped' and shaved a small area on his leg.
Sorry, but without looking at it, it is almost impossible to answer.

When a pet is undergoing surgery and intravenus lines need to be hooked up or shots need to be given, an area of the body is shaven clean to create a germ-free area.
Don't worry, the fur will grow back.

they most likely shaved a spot on the leg for the IV during surgery. Does your dog have long "arm" hair?

They probably just shaved his leg, in order to put in an IV for medication. His hair will grow back in no time, don't worry.

Yes. They remove the hair from the spot where they insert the IV.
