If the girls don't like museums much, then they should go see monuments. But there are some really cool museums, especially the new Native American one, and the Space Museum is really cool. There's all kinds of interesting museums with the Smithsonian. Have fun!

You might want to check out Theodore Rosevelt Island. Located close to the mall, it is a small island in the Potomac that covered with trails and a boardwalk through a little forest. In the middle is a large statue of TR along with some great quotes that the Girl Scouts might appriciate.

You might also look up your local congressman and get his email address. You can get a much better tour around the capitol grounds with a senator's invitation. They would probably like a pricture with the local troup for their own website.

Take the self-guided Adams Morgan walking trail (link below). It takes you through the funkiest, most ecclectic part of the city. If you go late in the afternoon, you'll see more fun stuff--- great boutiques with really funky clothes, and all sorts of stuff. Stop for an Ethiopian meal (Dukem on U & 11th Street would be great because most nights they have a dinner show with traditional Ethiopian dance and music but it's not on the Adams Morgan trail so if you don't have time to visit both neighborhoods, try Meskerem on 18th and Belmont). DC has the largest Ethiopian community outside of Ethiopia and it's really hard to find Ethiopian food in many other cities--- it is not pretty food but it is delicious, and you get to eat with your hands from communal plates so it is a good group activity.

The Holocaust Museum is wonderful but very powerful so make sure you have a quiet evening planned, if you decide to visit there. You will be deeply moved and if you're headed to a show, you might be too emotional to really get into it.

Check the schedule for the Millenium Stage at the Kennedy Center--- all their shows are free, very great performances, and there is a terrace along the KC that has an amazing view of DC and VA.

Our family regularly visits Washington, and really enjoy it... The Smithsonian is a favorite.... contact your congressman and get a tour of the US capitol.. that is the best.. but you have to contact your congressman or senator for the tour....

All of the monuments and the national mall are a great treat also.
