Yes. It is titled Unattended Motor Vehicle (RCW 46.61.600) The fine is $101.00. If you leave a child under age 16 in the same vehicle (RCW 46.61.685) you can be arrested on a misdemeanor (up to 90 days in jail).

There was a news segment recently telling us of a car that was stolen when the owner left it idling. The owner got a fine, because it's illegal in Washington, but if you were in Oregon, it would be legal

You only leave the engine on, when warming it up, or looking for fluid leaks, or working on it. There is no need to have it run, while you eat lunch out some ware

probably - it is here in Texas ( a public hazard - children you see ! - not for making auto theft easy as you probably suspect ) ( it seems other people think so also - it's a shame that the safety aspect doesn't come first to mind )

and the actual charge ( here ) is - Leaving a running motor vehicle unattended. ( it applies even when it's in your driveway )

i never heard of it being illegal. unless the person looked like he was doing something he wasnt supposed to.... i know you can get a ticket if you leave your car to warm it up in the morning..

yes it is illegal. your car get stolen insurance company will not pay for it, either.
