Sailing in the greek islands a few years ago we stopped at Messalonghi, There is an incredible collection of warplanes and missile launchers just by the harbour, you can check this out by looking on Google Earth, Messalonghi is on the mainland on the western coast. I would like to know why they are there and how they got there

The other poster failed to answer the question. I believe there is a nautical museum in Messalonghi or there could be a naval base near the area.

I would not be frightened of the Greek military posture. They seem to be very good at arresting British aviation enthusiasts who photograph their antiquated kites, but I have yet to see Greek troops in Afghanistan or Iraq. Greece - ptui!

It is an official Greek military base.
