Christian parents really ought to consider what they are doing to their children emotionally. The following should be considered child abuse. (I actually bore witness to this)
A preacher's wife (they had 8 kids) locked her three year old in a closet in the dark and wouldn't let her come out until she got saved.. told her that the closet is what hell is like.

This is good christian parenting?? Scare them and emotionally scar them for life? Make them feel guilty all the time and worthless? And you wonder why there are so many christians in prison and psych wards today.

It was reported.. this happened years ago.
I am simply responding to the "lovely" people who thought it necessary to attack atheists who parent their children because they don't have "god or jesus" in their lives.
I know there are crazies in all walks of life.. just thought I'd give a little reminder to those christians who seem to think they are the only good parents out there.

Okay thats valid, there are crazies everywhere regardless if you are a believer or not. But I am so tired of the Christian/Athiest bash that going on in the Religion section. Why doesn't everyone try to keep an open mind, listen to each other, we might actually learn something together!

Stop calling people who hide behind the name of Christ Christians. They are wolves in sheeps clothing. That woman didn't do that for Jesus. She had some serious control issues and should be put in jail. I am a Christian and I love and respect him as the gift from God that I know he is.

That's fkn horrible. You need to report that to human services or the cops or something. That is insane. I hope you reported it to someone. There are good and bad in every religion or non religion. Those people need to have their kids taken away, and go to some serious parenting classes. Report what happened as soon as possible.

Making a human being feel less than worthy to exist, for any reason, based on someone's judgemental attitudes and version of "morality" that not everybody necessarily agrees on isn't logical. From a psychological standpoint, such behavior does more psychological damage to people than anything else, resulting in a significant portion of people who are addicted to various drugs (alcohol and tobacco included), "cutting" and other self-hate-inflicted injuries, suicide and so on, not to mention the heavy levels of child abuse and neglect... and neglect in teaching a person about the realities of society and other people's viewpoints DOES do significant harm socially as well as psychologically. I've noticed a tendency towards inability to adjust within social settings, from young adults emerging into the world (military and civilian) who were home-schooled from right-wing Christian (EXTREME) viewpoints only.

Homosexuals, teens and various other people are targets within this standpoint, and I can't find any logic to it. How can someone judge another human being enough to make them feel LESS THAN HUMAN, deny them happiness and civil rights, based on a mindset that goes no further than their view of morals (or lack thereof) and whether something is "gross" or "icky" to them?

I do not feel that that is good christian parenting...I would never do that to my children and they are raised in a christian home and my 7 year got saved at the age 6 and I never pressured them in to anything...just have to show them the right way and they have to see how you live your life and the rest will follow...

I read of a satanist who was abusive and an athiest, and a muslim, and a johova's witness. You can't call out one set of people. All types of folks do stupid stuff. In my church the pastor would be the first to call the police. He doesn't believe in abuse. i think you're reaching in trying to say all religious people are that way.

You should definately seek counseling for this. It has obviously been very traumatic for you.

Seek help, get your inner little girl out of that closet.

So, what was the question? Oh, that's right, there wasn't a question, just a soapbox rant.

Seek Help. Jesus really does desire the best for you, He desires to bring healing and completeness to you.

what you have shared with me is not an example of love in my eyes.

My wife's parents did the same to her, for not wanting what they made for dinner and they are Atheists. Bad parents run the gamut of belief systems.
