It is a gift that you recieve from someone. It is an old saying...
The phrase "Don't look a gift horse in the mouth" means if someone gives you something for free, don't complain about it..
Because years ago when people bought a lot of horses, they would look at the horse's teeth to see if that horse was healthy or not..

A gift horse is a horse that someone gives you. Don't look in its mouth to see how old it is, at least not when the person who gave it to you is around That's where the saying "don't look a gift horse in the mouth" comes from.

If you are referring to the saying "Don't look a gift horse in the mouth." It refers to a horse someone gives as a gift and says don't insult the giver by looking at the horses teeth to see how old it is. It is a pretty old fashioned saying but it still holds true.

literally, it is a horse given to someone for free. I had a "gift horse" that was the best thing that ever happened to me. She was given to me about 7 years ago, and she just died on January 23. It was extremely difficult and painful, losing my "gift horse". There's not another horse like her out there.
