You are best to get her spayed if you aren't going to breed her, it can eliminate some health problems plus it just saves the risk of unwanted puppys and having to deal with all the blood and everything. I'm assuming your shepherd is a female. She will go into heat about 2x/year...starting most likely after she is 6 months of age. Heat cycles last 3 weeks in most female dogs.
