Well, it's finally time to start shaving... I've heard myths about boath of them and I wanted to ask which are better?
blades: will make your hair thicker and grow faster .
electric: will iritate your skin .
Are those true? What would you recommend? I was given as a present an electric shaver with 1 semicilindrical grid, is that good?
Thank you :)

Electric Razor Versus Blade

Go with a better quality disposable razor, like a Gillette Mach 3, or one of the new ones from Schick. The Schick Quattro is a piece of irritating crap though, which will catch your hair and rip it from your face on the blade guards. So far, the Mach 3 works best for me, but everybody is different.

I would advise if you're worried about hair growth rates, try shaving every other day. Most businesses are modern enough these days to allow men to work with a beard shadow, as long as it's not unruly.

As for electrics, some of them are face manglers. If you're going to use one, don't expect as close of a shave, first of all, and second, make absolutely sure that your face is lubricated and ready to be shaved. Otherwise, you're in for a world of hurt. I've seen some electric shavers rip hair out to the point that they draw blood. Now, there are some good ones out there, and some guys have adjusted to them and will swear by them, but again it's all up to user preference.

Electric is good if you are just keeping it trimmed down. For a great shave. Do it in the bath when the water is nice and hot (this opens up all the pores in the skin). If not in the bath, steam your face for a while to get the same result. Use a good shaving cream, although you can use a pre-shave oil prior to putting on the shaving cream which I'm told also helps too. ALWAYS shave in the direction of the hair growth. Only go against, if you want a really really close shave after doing the first point (shaving with the grain). Do LONG strokes (none of this short sharp fast cr@p). And ALWAYS rinse off your tool (razor) after every (or every other) stroke. And above all, ensure that you clean the razor good in clean fresh HOT water afterwards. Rinse off your face in good warm clean water, (followed by cold to close the pores up) and dry by dabbing your face with a clean soft towel afterwards (no rubbing as you could irritate your skin if you have sensitive skin). Tone & Moisturise and apply a squirt or two ( to your neck !) of your fav cologe. Result !!

My first razor was an electric and it didn't produce very good results it also was irritating to the skin. I switched over to a blade and actually, the hair started coming in thicker and faster. So I guess both are true.

in my opinion, lose the electric and use a blade. An old style blade, the carbon steel folding kind.

Although it is a personal preference based on your level of skin sensitivity and what you like. Try both. I like the Quad blade razor and Edge gel cause it shaves clean with no nicks/cuts. I had an electric razor and stopped using it cause it burned my face when I was done....And It didn't get all the hair either.....

Electric razors dont cleanly cut like a blade either....they grind down the hair. I think it leads to more possibilities of ingrown hair pimples on your face and they hurt!!!

My vote is for a razor and shaving gel!!! Follow it up with a good after shave like Nivea or other one!
